Hello! This is a place for readers to introduce themselves! I would love to foster more community here at Dr. Amber _Writes. I have many readers who are also mental health professionals or helpers of some kind, so if reading about therapy and mental health is your jam- you can find many of us here! If you write about topics similar to my content, feel free to share a link to your work in the comments as well!
If you are a reader but not a writer, I would love to hear from you as well! Knowing who my readers are will help me come up with topics that are most relevant to you. Let me know who you are, what brings you here, and what you look forward to reading about.
Just a reminder of what you can expect to find as a subscriber here:
Education about research-backed therapeutic ideas and techniques, with concrete suggestions for how to practice. I write about the same strategies that I use to support my own mental wellness and those that I routinely teach in therapy sessions.
Personal essays and reflections on my experiences as a mental health expert who is also painfully and beautifully human. Therapists are people too, and I wholeheartedly believe in the power of sharing our stories to connect and heal us.
Topics like parenthood, anxiety, trauma, grief, and addiction.
Houseplants and rescue pets <3

I'm a clinical psychologist, working with adults, children, and families. I've written a bunch of books for parents and kids on children's feelings and friendships, including Moody Moody Cars (for ages 4-8), Growing Friendships (for ages 6-12), and Kid Confidence (for parents). On Substack, you can find me at https://DrFriendtastic.substack.com.
My favorite work activity is my weekly podcast for children, called Kids Ask Dr. Friendtastic. Each 5-minute episode features an audio recording of a question about friendship from a child (ages 5-13) plus a practical and thought-provoking answer. There are also discussion questions to deepen children's understanding. The podcast goes out (for free) through my Substack and is on all the major podcast platforms.
Great idea!!
I’m a psychotherapist in private practice. I have a Substack here (linked below) where I write from a place of next to you, with you, not from an expert position. Because I am so in it, just like everyone else. My hope is to demystify therapy, therapists and bring therapeutic concepts out of the therapy room and into your hands. I also have a biweekly podcast with my husband, called a therapist and a lawyer walk into a bar. We go deeper into whatever I wrote about that week and speak quite candidly about how the topics often apply to us.
