I'm a clinical psychologist, working with adults, children, and families. I've written a bunch of books for parents and kids on children's feelings and friendships, including Moody Moody Cars (for ages 4-8), Growing Friendships (for ages 6-12), and Kid Confidence (for parents). On Substack, you can find me at https://DrFriendtastic.substack.com.

My favorite work activity is my weekly podcast for children, called Kids Ask Dr. Friendtastic. Each 5-minute episode features an audio recording of a question about friendship from a child (ages 5-13) plus a practical and thought-provoking answer. There are also discussion questions to deepen children's understanding. The podcast goes out (for free) through my Substack and is on all the major podcast platforms.

I also LOVE this idea and plan on checking it out. I have a number of elementary-aged young ladies in my life that struggle with friendships and I bet they could benefit from this. Thanks for being here Eileen!

Great idea!!

I’m a psychotherapist in private practice. I have a Substack here (linked below) where I write from a place of next to you, with you, not from an expert position. Because I am so in it, just like everyone else. My hope is to demystify therapy, therapists and bring therapeutic concepts out of the therapy room and into your hands. I also have a biweekly podcast with my husband, called a therapist and a lawyer walk into a bar. We go deeper into whatever I wrote about that week and speak quite candidly about how the topics often apply to us.

I am so glad we have connected on Substack Kaitlyn! I love hearing about what is on your mind each week. And you were the one who ultimately inspired me to binge watch Love Is Blind, so thank you for that lol.

Thank you for allowing us this space to introduce ourselves. I have a PhD in cognitive psychology and published many articles and a popular science book on how we learn, but that’s not what I write about here on Substack. As such, I won’t post a link (but if anyone is interested in personal essays about identity, I’m sure you know how to click through and find it).

I will link for you then :) Substack seems to have a bit of a representation problem and I am more than happy to be a space to boost the voices we do not hear from enough. Personal essays from a cognitive psychologist reflecting on gender identity- sounds relevant enough to me!

Thank you so much for being here Jude!

I’m a “ recovering” lawyer who quit corporate life two years ago. After taking 18 months to pause and get really quiet, I realised I had reached the age of 56 without really knowing what matters to me. This was a shocking revelation but perusing many posts from Substack community remembers I’m super grateful that I had this realization in my 50s rather than my 80s or not at all. Last year, tapping in to my love of driving, I decided to obtain my commercial drivers licence and I chose very deliberately to become a school bus driver. I now spend my days driving kids around the Colorado countryside trying to avoid deer, antelope, wild turkey and prairie dogs. It has literally changed my life. The tales and topics aired on the bus are kaleidoscopic and it’s caused me to ponder much more deeply the psychology of humans observed through the lens of the kids. They are truly my greatest teachers.

I’m curious to learn from all of you who have clinical backgrounds and to sprinkle some of my real live observations into the mix.

I came to this Substack because algorithm suggested I read the How to sit with an emotion post. I am a mother of three children ages 11, 14 and 15. My youngest son, diagnosed with ADHD when he was 8 has brought me to look for new ways of parenting because how I was parenting did not work for him. I have recently found Dr Becky Kennedy’s Good Inside book and app which I love but it has brought me to realize how I don’t sit well with emotions and that is exactly what my son struggles with as well (same with my other children but the consequences seem for now less dramatic). I need to educate myself so I can do better as a person and as a parent. Aside from being a mom, I am the editor of a local paper published four times a year in a small ski town in Quebec. I love books, cats and plants.

Hi Everyone! I am excited to be a new subscriber. I write personal essays about life navigating the journey of falling in love, building a family, finding out that my husband has cancer, and then navigating his cancer journey as both a wife and a doctor. I'm not a psychologist or mental health professional but I enjoy reading different mental health-themed newsletters. I write a newsletter called Hello, Adversity (helloadversity.substack.com) where I write about my journey living with an adult-onset rare disease. I share diffferent resilience strategies that have helped me along the way, as mental health is a major component of my experience.
