I am very impressed by your jungle! I have a fair amount of spider plants and aloe, both because they are easy to propogate and not so easy to kill!

I do a fair amount of outdoor gardening with a pollinator garden and lots of vegetables. I love the idea of a gardening metaphor with holding things loosely, having patience and giving up control. I can try to plant cucumbers and one year they will do great, another year, not so much. I can't predict how any of the plants will do with so many variables of pests and soil and rain and heat. Some years we make pickles and some years we buy them!

Beautiful! Yes, flexibility and the importance of accepting our different capacities in different seasons! I’ve never been as excited about outdoor gardening as I am with houseplants, but I’ve also never had much yard space. Hopefully one day 🤞🏻

I love that there is a metaphor for everything in nature. Gardening helped me through some tough times in my life. I remember at one point in my journey with infertility just noticing the simple fact that not all plants get to reproduce and that they don't take it personally! It gave me a moment of spaciousness and a wider perspective on my struggles. I also remember someone once saying to me 'never trust a therapist who can't take care of their plants'. I make an extra effort to give love and care to the ones in my therapy room as part of creating a nurturing space. That's an impressive number of plants you have there Amber 😃

Lifelong orchid here, and I love your indoor jungle! I have one, too, and it's part of how I coped with the pandemic. My favorite houseplants, currently, are my variegated string of hearts, a huge rattlesnake plant that I carefully nursed for years after my cat nearly chewed it to the brink, and my philodendron brasil that just keeps on growing and growing and growing. Oh, and my tricolor hoya that bloomed for the first time last year. And my giant monstera. 🪴

Sounds like you have quite a collection too! I love string of hearts 🥰 I had to give up my monstera because it got too large! Maybe I will get a baby.

I have one houseplant it’s an African violet and I have it because my mother and her mother grew them. It connects me to them. All of the rest of my gardening activities happen outside, except for the seeds that I sprout on my kitchen counter for their health benefits.

I was hoping that someone would mention the nostalgia and familial connections of some plants! I think african violets remind many of us of our mothers and grandmothers. I've also felt this family connection through plants I acquire from funerals. Unfortunately those tend to be peace lilies which I struggle with (and also aren't safe for kitties). Thank you for sharing!

Sure! Oddly enough the violet I have now was given to me by my mother-in-law and I realized I forgot to mention that.
